Let's talk about fiber today. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that the body can’t digest. Though most carbs are broken down into sugar molecules called glucose, fiber passes through the body undigested. Fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check!

Kids & adults need at least 25-35 grams of fiber a day for good health, but most of us get only about 15 grams a day! Great sources are whole grains, whole fruits and veggies, legumes, and nuts. When it comes to fiber, there are two types, both beneficial to health:

Soluble fiber, which dissolves in water, can help lower glucose levels as well as help lower blood cholesterol. Foods with this type of fiber include oatmeal, chia seeds, nuts, beans, lentils, apples, & blueberries.

Insoluble fiber, which doesn't dissolve in water, can help food move through your digestive system, promoting regularity and helping prevent constipation!

Track your fiber today! It will be interesting!
